What are moon rocks?
The origin of moon rocks (the weed kind) is a bit fuzzy, but rumors abound that the dispensary Starbudz760 first concocted them, with legendary West Coast rapper Kurupt popularizing the product and trademarking his own version called Kurupt Moonrock.
Moon rocks are a THC megazord: They are cannabis buds dipped in hash oil, then rolled in kief. Historically GSC is used, but any strain will suffice.
How potent are moon rocks?
Though the potency of each batch of moon rocks varies and depends on how it’s made and who produces it, the general consensus is that they hover around 50% THC. For reference, most flower averages around 20% THC. Each hit is damn near its own experience.
And the high? Oh buddy, oh pal, don’t even get me started on the high. Starting in the head and eventually spreading throughout the entire body, down to your toes, a moon rock high is a slow burn that will make you realize you’ve reached a mountaintop that you may not be ready to climb.
I once smoked a gram of moon rocks at 5pm, and when I woke up the next morning at 7 am, I was still on Mars waiting for the train back to Earth.
Pros and cons of smoking moon rocks
Pros:
- They will get you super duper high
- Cost effective—just like dabs, a little bit goes a long way
- Great for medical patients or other folks who want a high dose of THC
- They’re a fun novelty and good conversation-starter
Cons:
- They will get you super duper high (not always a good thing for everyone)
- They’re messy—most people smoke them in glass; you can roll them in a joint or blunt, but don’t put them in a grinder
- Keep them in a cool, dry place; you don’t want them getting all melty on you
How to make your own moon rocks at home
Though moon rocks are historically made with GSC flower and/or GSC concentrate, you can make your own moon rocks however you’d like. All you need is the following:
- Buds of your favorite strain
- Your favorite liquidy concentrate or hash oil
- Big ol’ bowl of kief from the bottom of your grinder
- Tongs (or any grabbing/pinching apparatus)
- Liquid dropper
Step 1:
Grab a nug or two of your favorite flower. I suggest using one of the denser nugs, as it’ll hold the final cannabis cocktail together better.
Step 2:
Grab your favorite concentrate. If it’s super thick and tough to manipulate, heat it up until it’s a little liquidy
Then use a dropper to completely cover the buds without having to dip them in the concentrate. Oversaturation of the bud will lead to longer drying times and difficulty lighting it.
Step 3:
Use tongs to grab the bud and roll it in kief until the entire nug is covered in crystal goodness.
Step 4:
Let your moon rocks dry until they’re ready for action, then smoke it up.

Was looking for a new indica to try, once i saw the name of this i had to chose it. Buds are very light mint green in appearance with a white sheen. The smell is very sweet and sugary, it almost has a sherbet smell to it, quite lemony but some earthy tones below it. I was a little disappointed to not smell any caramel what so ever. The buds are very thick with resin but ground up fairly well. The taste of this strain is incredible, the most interesting strain ive had in a long time. Tastes just like caramel, or butterscotch, very sweet then fades into a creamy coffee on the exhale, slightly minty overtone. It really tastes amazing. Effects are very strong indica. Totally relaxed and calm, quite strong so i didnt need to use too much. Nice warm relaxed body feeling. No couch lock for me but i didnt exactly want to sit chatting to people either. No real urge for the munchies. Would 100% recommend to indica fans.

Excellent mix of body and head high. Left me relaxed and thinking wonderful, funny thoughts. No discomfort whatsoever. Definitely capable of sending me into orbit as well. Initial taste is kind of neutral, with citrus and mint being the dominant ones. However, the strain leaves a very pleasant aftertaste of caramel. I could be imagining that based on the name of the strain, though.

Elegí cream caramel buscando una indica, y su olor y aspecto me llamó la atención. El punto de curado era perfecto, lo que siempre es de agradecer. Los cogollos son firmes y compactos, de un verde intenso y cubiertos de resina, que brilla y tiene tonos marrones, azucarados -entiendo que por el grado de maduración en que fueron cosechados. El olor no es muy intenso. Es agradable, con tonos cítricos y dulces. No encuentro un tono claro a “caramelo”, si bien hay notas muy dulces, pero predomina un elemento algo cítrico y otro matiz más tenue y en cierto modo terroso. El sabor es inequívocamente dulce, si bien no muy fuerte. Hierba correcta, suave y sin estridencias. Pega fuerte y rápido, con el clásico zumbido en la cabeza que baja rápidamente a los músculos. Relajante y tranquila, con efectos típicos de indica, músculos pesados. No tiene un efecto “cierraojos” inmediato, pero se nota mucho en el cuerpo. Parece tener niveles altos de THC, y también bastante CBO o similares por sus efectos de relajación y bienestar. Hierba tranquila, para ver una peli o para desconectar después de hacer deporte o del trabajo. Buena calidad, 4/5.

Muy buena. Tiene unos cogollos pequeños i compactos, con un olor bastante intenso, verde intensos de color. Sabor muy dulce, se nota algo a citrico, pero solo un poco cuando empieza, y después, deja un sabor más seco, a hierba. Optima indica, deja una sensación de relajación general importante, baja rapidamente tensión y stress. Perfecta antes de acostarme, para relajarme mejor y reducir mi insomnio.

I was hoping to get my hands on 5 grams of Cannadential but luckily i found just 3, which made me give this strain a go. All-in-all, I find it to be sensory-wise, nothing special- OK smell and taste and beautiful looking flowers-, but the buzz is so good. It helped me relax for a while after a pretty hectic day and enjoy a nice burrito and some videogames.

A little background: I’m currently three months into grieving over the very traumatic and sudden death of my fiancé. He was killed by a drunk driver when we were hit head on by a wrong way car on the highway. I made it out fine, but witnessed the entire accident and his death. Needless to say, I have a looot of shit to sort out. I’ve smoked my way through a few strains, trying to find one that helps me get through my grief and PTSD as best I can. This strain is my favorite, so far. On a two week stretch of a severe depression, a few hits of this and I felt good. I actually laughed with my friends for the first time in months, and the only side effect I experienced was a little dry mouth. No headaches, eye pain, or dizziness. My appetite actually came back a little and I didn’t get over-tired. It really leveled me out. I am going to continue to smoke on it and hope it stays the same, because as of right now it’s 100% my favorite indica.
